The Story Project is a creative initiative and not for profit organisation. In 2010, they asked us to develop their brand and build a website which would help them capture and share everyday people’s stories, providing a snapshot of life for the community and future generations.

Facebook Workshop

I knew it would be a challenge to present to 30 tourism businesses on behalf of Sunshine Coast Destination. Facebook is a fast changing environment and with every attendee at a seemingly different level of familiarity with the world's most powerful marketing tool, the 2 hour workshop wasn't a complete success.

To help me answer questions, I had recruited someone who knows more about Facebook than I probably ever will - Annie Infinite from Saucy Social Media. There were lots of questions thrown at us on the night on a whole range of issues - some very specific, others more strategic. I am very grateful to Annie for giving up her time.

Sustainability in Education

In mid 2010 Matt decided that he couldn't allow his kids' school to keep struggling with an inadequate online presence. The website had such crippling usability issues, that it was seriously impacting public perception. In our experience, most school websites are poorly designed. A common reason is that they're often produced by a well-meaning volunteer who, even if they have professional skills, donate their time to get the site up and running. This scenario backfires for everyone involved: the web developer ends up rushing the job and the school ends up dissatisfied with the end product.

Last week I presented to 85 artists as part of Queensland Arts Council's efforts to support creativity on the Sunshine Coast. It struck me that artists have a distinct advantage over the rest of us in that they are innate content creators. While I often struggle to make my daily output tangible, artists should find it much easier.

We are aware of the risk of looking like disaster hunters (with several previous posts on the topic), but I feel this is the best way of helping my family and friends right now. Much of them live in Christchurch so I am absolutely devastated with what I am witnessing. Christchurch has been hit by what could possible be the worst natural disaster in New Zealand history. I have been in contact with my family via text messages. Fortunately those who I can reach are ok, but there are several others I can't reach.

All of PL are safe - some of us escaped to dryer places, some just got a bit damp. We are thinking of all flood victims that have got it harder - here in Australia as well as other parts of the world. In Southafrica 53 lifes have been lost since the beginning of the year and in Sao Paolo floods are also currently ravaging leaving 13 dead in mudslides. It is traumatic for all people involved and shocking and saddening for us luckier ones. We'll be donating the the flood victim fund and you might consider it too.
