Website photography: go with a pro

We're not short on style

I’m sometimes surprised at how often photography seems like an after-thought for marketers online. The surge of user-generated-content has created a level of complacency that tempts us to believe the images will take care of themselves. And there’s plenty of other reasons to under-value the visuals and do it all yourself:

  • Low-cost cameras
  • Low-cost software
  • Speed of transfer from camera to screen
  • Low-cost web publishing tools

business and pleasure

Some young folk using foursquare socialy at the bar

Foursquare is a location based social networking application and game for smartphones making a lot of noise in the media of late. It may sound useless to some, but the location based technology driving foursquare is here to stay. It is a fun way to understand more about your surroundings and an interesting way to attract and keep more business.

For those who don’t know foursquare, here’s a brief description from their website:

Ignorance in Paradise

Matt quizzical

The worst thing about living and working in beautiful Noosa is when small town mentality shifts from being endearing to insulting. We were recently slandered as part of a local malcontent’s campaign to discredit one of our clients and this is my right of reply.

The author has an issue with the governance structure of Noosa Biosphere Ltd (our client). I love a good bit of social agitation and his passion actually draws my admiration. For all I know, his preferred governance model may be just what Noosa needs to stop idiots littering, developers exploiting and cars dominating. The issue I have is with this critic’s ignorant, cynical, insulting and piteous attack on the integrity of people he doesn’t know and makes no effort to contact for comment. Continue Reading »

We made it onto the ECOS cover

Velella on Ecos Magazine CoverAs part of an article about Noosa Biosphere we were invited by CLMC (the Noosa Biosphere communication agency) to contribute images. The ECOS team liked it so much, they asked for our Velella Velellas to be their July cover stars.

ECOS is regarded as one of Australia’s most authoritative magazines on sustainability, published since 1974 by Australia’s national scientific research agency, CSIRO. Throughout that time, ECOS has stayed true to its original brief of tackling sustainability from a scientific perspective.” (from about ECOS) Continue Reading »

Australians Use of Social Media

Australia's participation in online social media

Australia's participation in online social media

These figures from Roy Morgan seem very low to me. It would have been good to see a comparison vs US or UK.

Surely more than 1% of the sample used an online dating service, or were they too ashamed to say so? Also, where is twitter in this list? Would it have been included in the social networking?

What surprises you about this data?

Photo-realistic sculptor, Ron Mueck wows Brisbane

ron mueck

Glad they're not clients!

There’s an amazing show running until 1st August, 2010 at the Gallery Of Modern Art in Brisbane. Melbourne born, Ron Mueck is exhibiting a dozen or so sculptures that are breathtaking. They are made from fibreglass and various resins and painted finishing touches that produce stunning artworks. Take a look at the short video I made when I raced around on my third circuit (kudos to the gallery and artist for permitting photography).

It’s great to get creatively inspired now and again. Which is your favourite?
