Matt looks fantastic from the back!
I knew it would be a challenge to present to 30 tourism businesses on behalf of Sunshine Coast Destination. Facebook is a fast changing environment and with every attendee at a seemingly different level of familiarity with the world’s most powerful marketing tool, the 2 hour workshop wasn’t a complete success.
To help me answer questions, I had recruited someone who knows more about Facebook than I probably ever will – Annie Infinite from Saucy Social Media. There were lots of questions thrown at us on the night on a whole range of issues – some very specific, others more strategic. I am very grateful to Annie for giving up her time.
We were able to demonstrate a few of the basic practical steps a business needs to make to establish a successful page. But by the time the two hours had elapsed, we had only covered half of what we intended to. I think the 3 main issues were: poor quality internet connectivity, a very broad range of needs and the legacy issues of Facebook’s development which have created a mix of user experiences that make it hard to communicate steps clearly to everyone. I would personally like to thank all attendees for their patience and have posted the presentation here to encourage everyone to comment and ask further questions.
In addition, there are a number of resources I would like to share with you that supplement the presentation:
How to start marketing on Facebook
Apps to help you run promotions and customise your Page: Wildfire and NorthSocial
Creating Check-In Deals with Facebook Places
How to merge your Place Page and Business Page
Grab the like button for your website and do other stuff to integrate your website
I hope this proves useful. Please do leave a comment below and help me improve any aspect of the workshop you thought fell short of expectations.
